ChatGPT Space is OpenAI's shared workspace inside ChatGPT, where you keep pages, slides and files, share them with your team, and tag ChatGPT, Codex or your dot to work on them. OpenAI launched it on September 29, 2026 for Pro, Business and Enterprise. It replaces Library, and Projects stay separate (release notes). A ChatGPT Space page is an editable document you and ChatGPT write together, with subpages, comments and charts (OpenAI help). The catch for a team like ours is who's allowed in, because every agent you can tag is OpenAI's. Docs checked 2026-11-02.

Who can use ChatGPT Space?

Anyone on ChatGPT Pro, Business or Enterprise can create and edit in ChatGPT Space, on the web and in the desktop app (OpenAI help). On Business and Enterprise your admin's sharing settings decide what you can share, and Enterprise sharing is an opt-in preview. Workspaces with data residency in Canada or the UAE don't have it yet.

Business and Enterprise also get Teams. You add coworkers once, then share a page or a whole Space with the team instead of person by person, and you can set up team tasks for recurring work like a weekly update (Teams in ChatGPT). Pro doesn't have Teams, so you share pages with people directly.

How do you set up a ChatGPT Space for your team?

You set up a ChatGPT Space by asking ChatGPT to create one, turning your work into pages, and sharing it with people or a Team. OpenAI's flow (getting started):

  1. Ask ChatGPT to create a space and name it: "Create a space named Website launch."
  2. Turn work you already have into a page. Open the conversation and ask: "Create a page from this conversation with the goals, decisions and next steps." You can also start from a template on Space home.
  3. Open Share on the page or the space, add people (or a Team, on Business and Enterprise) and pick view, comment or edit (Collaborate in Space). Subpages inherit access from their parent.
  4. Ask for changes in the page's chat, select text for an inline edit, or leave a comment that mentions @ChatGPT or @dot.

Each collaborator works with their own ChatGPT. Your teammate's ChatGPT edits the same page as yours, but it can't see your chats or your memory.

Which agents can work in a ChatGPT Space?

Three agents can work in a ChatGPT Space: ChatGPT, Codex and your dot. OpenAI's Space page says you can "tag in ChatGPT, Codex, or your dot" on a page (ChatGPT Space), and the docs show @ChatGPT and @dot inline or in a comment, with a note that the agents you see "depend on your access" (Work with agents in Space). Dots need Pro, Business Premium or Enterprise (Introducing dots), and on Enterprise they're off until an admin turns them on (Manage dots).

Two claims need testing before you build a routine on either:

  • Files. The Space page says "Dots work natively across files in Space." On October 15 a user on OpenAI's forum reported that their dot couldn't access or reference files stored in Space (OpenAI Community).
  • Self-updating pages. The Space page says pages "can stay updated from your connected tools." The docs say "Keep Updated isn't available at launch," and that writing a cadence into a page doesn't by itself schedule a task. For a recurring update, set a scheduled task in chat and check that a run actually changed the page.

ChatGPT Space vs Projects: which one holds what?

A ChatGPT Space holds the work you share, and a ChatGPT Project holds the chats and sources that produce it. OpenAI keeps them separate, so creating a Space doesn't touch your Projects. If part of your team uses Claude, Claude Projects is the nearest thing on that side, and it works more like a ChatGPT Project than a Space.

ChatGPT Space ChatGPT Projects Claude Projects
What it holds Pages, slides, files, sites and images (OpenAI) Chats, files, instructions and linked sources (OpenAI) Chats, a knowledge base and instructions (Anthropic)
Plans Pro, Business, Enterprise Signed-in users, depending on plan Every plan, five projects on Free
Sharing A page or a whole Space, view, comment or edit; Teams on Business and Enterprise Project sharing, depending on plan and workspace settings Team and Enterprise only, can view or can edit
Agents that work in it ChatGPT, Codex, dots ChatGPT, in Chat or Work Claude

One interaction to know: sharing a ChatGPT Project removes personal Space files from its sources, though the originals aren't deleted (Manage ChatGPT Space).

Is ChatGPT Space a Notion replacement?

ChatGPT Space can replace Notion for documents ChatGPT writes, but not yet for structured data. A Space page is a living document that people and agents edit together, which beats a wiki somebody updates by hand. But OpenAI's help center still lists Sheets as "coming soon," and nothing in its docs matches Notion's databases, where every row is a page with properties, views and filters (Notion help). Our take: if your team runs on Notion databases, keep them and use Space for the briefs and plans ChatGPT drafts. And Notion's MCP server works with Claude as well as ChatGPT (Notion), which matters if your team isn't all on ChatGPT.

Can Claude work in ChatGPT Space?

Claude can't work in ChatGPT Space as an agent. As of November 2, OpenAI's docs name ChatGPT, Codex and dots as the agents you can tag in a Space, and nothing in them brings in Claude, Grok or Cursor. A teammate who works in Claude can still join as a person, but they need a ChatGPT account, and Pro, Business or Enterprise to edit. Whatever their Claude produces reaches the page by paste or upload, and nothing on the page flows back to Claude.

The way around it is to keep the shared state somewhere both sides can reach. ChatGPT connects to remote MCP servers, with write tools on Business and Enterprise and read-only on Pro (OpenAI help). Claude does the same through custom connectors (Claude help). And app connections you already use in ChatGPT "may be available" to your dot (Manage dots). A store both apps connect to becomes the page they share, even if it's less pleasant to write in than a Space page.

That's how we ran it when we were using a dot. On our first voice call it did a pile of research and saved it to a shared workspace through a CLI it installed on its own cloud computer, and a Claude on the other side picked up the follow-ups the next morning. The work lived outside ChatGPT, so it didn't matter which vendor's agent read it next.

What should you check before sharing a page?

OpenAI's sharing docs flag most of these (sharing, data and controls):

  • Your memory can end up on the page. With Memory on, ChatGPT can use your personal context to write a page, and once it's written there everyone with access can read it. A collaborator's ChatGPT can then remember it, even if your Memory is off.
  • Linked files don't travel with the page. Uploads follow the page's permissions, while a linked Google Drive file keeps Drive's. But anything ChatGPT copied or summarized from that file is now readable by everyone on the page.
  • Deleting a parent deletes other people's work. A deleted page goes to Trash with all its subpages, including subpages other people own (OpenAI help).
  • Pages can carry instructions. OpenAI's admin guide warns that "pages, files, and tool results may contain prompt injections," and recommends requiring approval for consequential actions where supported (Manage ChatGPT Space). That counts double if agents edit pages people outside your team can write to.

Where does Tokenrip fit?

Tokenrip is a shared workspace that agents from different vendors connect to, so Claude, ChatGPT, Codex, our Grok Bots and a dot all read and write the same files and tasks. If your whole team lives in ChatGPT, Space is the simpler choice and you don't need us. If half of it runs on Claude, Tokenrip is where both halves can put their work so nobody pastes it across. Agents with a shell, like a dot, connect through our CLI on their own computer, and Claude and ChatGPT connect through the MCP connector.

Questions

What happened to my ChatGPT Library?

Library is now Space for Pro, Business and Enterprise users, so the files you saved there show up in Space. Projects aren't affected and stay separate.

Can I edit ChatGPT Space pages on my phone?

Not yet. On iOS and Android you can find, read and share pages, but editing works only on the web and in the ChatGPT desktop app. OpenAI says mobile editing is coming.

Will OpenAI train on pages I share in Space?

It depends on whose agent reads the page. On personal plans, each person's own Improve the model setting covers what their ChatGPT reads or writes on a shared page, so a collaborator with training on can include your content. OpenAI doesn't train on Business or Enterprise data by default.

What's the difference between Space, a space and a ChatGPT workspace?

Your ChatGPT workspace is the personal or company account you're signed in to, and it sets your plan, members and settings. Space is the area in ChatGPT that holds your pages and files. A space, lower case, is a group of related pages inside Space for one topic or team, and you can share it as a whole.
