As of October 2026, to use Claude and ChatGPT together you give both the same source of truth, because the two cannot connect directly: neither Anthropic nor OpenAI documents a way for one app to read the other's chats, projects or memory. You can copy between them, point both at a shared Google Drive or Notion through their connectors, or connect both to one shared workspace over MCP that each can read and write.

How do you make Claude and ChatGPT talk to each other?

Through something both can read and write; you cannot link the two apps. Neither documents a setting that connects it to the other, so what exists are one-way copies and shared tools.

  • Memory import into Claude. Claude can import memories you paste from another AI provider: Settings > Memory > Start import, paste, then Add to memory. Anthropic calls it "experimental and still in active development". It works on what you paste in; the article describes no ongoing sync. (Claude help)
  • Shared tools. Both apps can reach the same services, such as Google Drive and Notion, through connectors or apps.
  • Custom MCP servers. Both apps can add a remote MCP server, so both can read and write the same one.

If Grok is your third assistant, the same rule applies: it keeps its own memory too (Grok memory), so point all three at one shared source instead of trying to sync them.

Do people use both ChatGPT and Claude?

Yes. A common debate in public threads is whether paying for both is worth it, and the usual answer is to keep both and split the work by job. A split that follows what each vendor documents:

Job Use Why
Coding on a ChatGPT plan Codex Included in ChatGPT Free, Go, Plus, Pro, Business, Edu and Enterprise (OpenAI)
Coding on a Claude plan Claude Code Pro and Max limits are shared across Claude and Claude Code (Claude help)
Multi-step work on files on your computer Claude, as a Cowork task On desktop, Claude reads and writes your local files without uploads (Claude help)
Questions about files in Drive or Notion Either Both connect to Google Drive and Notion (below)
A second opinion The other assistant Paste the draft, or point both at one shared file

Can I use my ChatGPT subscription in Claude Code?

No. Claude Code signs in with a Claude Pro or Max subscription, a Claude for Teams or Enterprise seat, a Claude Console account, or a cloud provider such as Amazon Bedrock, Google Cloud's Agent Platform or Microsoft Foundry (Claude Code docs). Your ChatGPT plan covers Codex instead. Both agents can work in the same repository and share instructions through AGENTS.md, which Claude Code reads when there is no CLAUDE.md (memory docs); Codex and Claude Code together has the setup.

What is the easiest way to use Claude and ChatGPT together?

Copy and paste. Ask one for a summary of the work so far, paste it into the other, and paste the answer back. For a one-off second opinion, that is enough.

It stops working once the project runs for days. Each paste is a snapshot, so you become the person keeping both versions in step. Claude's own memory is also split by project: each project has its own memory and does not read other projects' memory (Claude help).

Can Claude and ChatGPT read the same Google Drive or Notion?

Yes, for reading. Writing back depends on the app and your plan.

  • Claude: the Google Drive connector reads Docs, Sheets, Slides, PDFs and Office files (text content only) and can save Claude-generated files to your Drive when code execution and file creation are on. Separate Docs, Sheets and Slides connectors let Claude create and edit those files. On Team and Enterprise, an Owner must enable the connectors first. (Claude help)
  • ChatGPT: OpenAI lists Google Drive and Notion apps. Its own example is "Find my project brief in Google Drive and summarize the next steps." Availability "depends on the app, your ChatGPT plan, region, workspace, role, model". (OpenAI help) The Google Drive app can request separate permissions for reading files, viewing file metadata, or "creating and updating files", so writing back depends on the Google permissions you grant and your workspace settings (OpenAI help).
  • Notion: Notion MCP connects Claude.ai, Claude Desktop, ChatGPT and other MCP apps to your workspace to read and write pages, and the tools act with your full Notion permissions (Notion help).

Can you use Claude collaboratively?

Yes, on Team and Enterprise plans. Projects can be shared with "Can view" or "Can edit" access, and chats inside a project stay private unless you share them (Claude help). Memory stays per person: owners cannot view or edit a member's memories.

Can two people use claude.ai at the same time?

Not on one account. Anthropic's Consumer Terms say "You also may not make your Account available to anyone else" (Consumer Terms). Each person needs their own account, and a Team plan gives each person a seat plus shared projects.

How do I connect Claude to a custom MCP server?

Add a custom connector. On Pro and Max: Customize > Connectors > + Add > Add custom connector, enter a name and the server URL, click Continue, review the detected authentication settings and click Continue again, pick how people sign in, then click Add. (Claude help)

  • Plans: Free, Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise. Free users are limited to one custom connector.
  • On Team, only Owners and Primary Owners add connectors; on Enterprise, also people with a custom role that includes "Manage access to Libraries". Members then connect themselves.
  • Auth: OAuth (Claude's published identity is the recommended client) or fixed request headers such as a bearer key.
  • Turn a connector on per chat with the + button, then Connectors.

How do I connect ChatGPT to a custom MCP server?

On the web only, through plugins: OpenAI's ChatGPT docs say "ChatGPT web uses remote MCP tools through plugins" (ChatGPT Learn). The help center path is Plugins > + > Add custom MCP server, and "You don't need to turn on Developer Mode first." The developer docs describe a second path: turn on Developer mode under Settings > Apps > Advanced settings, then click Create app. The developer docs list OAuth, no authentication or mixed for sign-in; neither page describes a field for a pasted API key.

The plan rules conflict too. The developer docs say Developer mode is "Available to Pro, Plus, Business, Enterprise, and Education accounts on the web." The help center says "Full MCP is only available to Business and Enterprise/Edu users, currently", that Pro can connect servers "with read/fetch permissions", and does not mention Plus. If you are on Plus or Pro, expect read access and test whether write tools work. The full walkthrough is in How to add an MCP server to ChatGPT.

What can Claude and ChatGPT share natively?

Very little directly. Even inside OpenAI, "ChatGPT web uses ChatGPT memory, while local Codex clients use a separate local memory store" (ChatGPT Learn), so memory does not carry over even between two OpenAI tools.

What you need Claude ChatGPT
Remember you across chats Memory, split by project ChatGPT memory, inside your ChatGPT account
Read the other app's memory No; paste-in import, experimental Not documented on the pages checked
Read a shared Google Drive Yes, text content Yes, plan and region dependent
Write back to Drive Save files; edit Docs, Sheets, Slides Create and update files, if you grant the permission and your workspace allows it
Add a custom MCP server Free (1), Pro, Max, Team, Enterprise Web only; plan rules conflict between OpenAI pages
Sign in with a bearer key Yes, request headers No: OAuth, no auth or mixed
Tasks and handoffs between them No No

What is the workaround without Tokenrip?

If you work alone and mostly need both assistants to read the same brief, use one Google Doc:

  1. Create a "Project brief" Doc with sections for Goal, Decisions, Open questions and Latest output.
  2. Connect Google Drive in both apps (and the Google Docs connector in Claude).
  3. Start each chat with: "Read Project brief in my Drive before answering."
  4. Ask Claude to update the Doc when a decision changes. Paste ChatGPT's useful output into the Doc yourself if its Drive app has no write permission on your account.

This is enough for one person and one document. For a longer-lived set of notes, the same idea grows into a Claude second brain. It does not give you a task list both assistants can pick from, a handoff note for the next session, a record of which assistant changed what, or a way for Codex, a teammate or a teammate's agent to work in the same place.

How do I connect Claude and ChatGPT to one workspace?

Tokenrip is the shared workspace for your AI agents. Claude, ChatGPT, Codex and Grok bring their work here. You approve what needs you and see the rest get done.

  1. Add Tokenrip in Claude. Customize > Connectors > + Add > Add custom connector, URL https://api.tokenrip.com/mcp, then connect. On the Tokenrip page choose Continue with email and enter the code from your email. On Free, this uses your one custom connector.
  2. Add Tokenrip in ChatGPT (web). Use the custom MCP server or Developer mode path above with the same URL and OAuth. If ChatGPT asks how to register, choose CIMD: Tokenrip's OAuth server supports Client ID Metadata Documents, and OpenAI's developer docs list CIMD as a supported option. On the Tokenrip page choose I have a code from my agent and paste the code Claude gives you when you ask it for one (it lasts 10 minutes), or use Continue with email. Plan limits still apply: the help center gives Pro read/fetch permissions only, and OpenAI's pages disagree about Plus, so check whether ChatGPT can save to the workspace on your plan.
  3. Open it. Start a new chat in each app and say "open my Tokenrip workspace".

Example. In Claude you draft a launch brief and ask Claude to save it to the workspace. In ChatGPT you say "open my Tokenrip workspace and critique the launch brief". ChatGPT reads the same file and, where your plan allows write tools, saves a revised version. Every edit is kept as a version, so back in Claude you can see the diff and decide what stays. Both assistants now work from one file instead of two pasted copies, which is the point of agents acting on shared state.

Try it in one step. Paste this line into the agent you want to connect. It reads the setup page and does the rest; you give it your email address and a six-digit code.
