You can only share a Claude project if you're on a Team or Enterprise plan, and only with people in the same organization. On Free, Pro or Max, the most you can do is send someone a read-only copy of a chat. ChatGPT is the opposite: every plan, Free included, can invite people into a project or share it by link. Docs checked 2026-10-26.

Can you share a Claude project on Pro or Max?

No, Claude doesn't let Free, Pro or Max users share projects. Anthropic's pricing page lists project sharing as unavailable on Free, Pro and both Max tiers, and available on Team and Enterprise (Anthropic). Anthropic's help page only describes adding members "from your organization" by name or email, so a contractor or client outside it has no way in (Anthropic). There is no public link for a Claude project either: the "Public" setting means everyone in your organization.

What do people get in a shared Claude project?

On Team or Enterprise, you set a shared Claude project to Public (everyone in the organization) or Private (invited members only), then give each person one of two roles (Anthropic):

  • Can view: sees the instructions and knowledge files and can chat in the project, but can't change it.
  • Can edit: changes instructions and knowledge and manages members.

One detail is easy to miss: chats inside a shared Claude project stay private. Members share the instructions and files, not the conversations. If your cofounder wants to see how you got to a decision, you have to share that chat separately.

What can you share without a Team plan?

Without a Team plan, Claude lets you share a read-only snapshot of one chat. On every plan you can share a chat with specific people by email, and a free Claude account is enough to view it (Anthropic). The limits are real:

  • The recipient can't reply, continue the chat or copy it into their account.
  • They see only messages from before you shared, until you click "Update shared chat."
  • Files you attached are left out, and so is raw data from connectors and MCP tools. They see Claude's answers only.

A chat snapshot works for showing someone a result. It doesn't work for two people building on the same context every day.

Can you share a Claude Cowork project or a Claude Code session?

A Cowork project, yes, on the same terms as a Claude project. A Cowork session, no. Anthropic says Cowork projects "share the same way as projects in Claude": Team and Enterprise only, with Can view or Can edit for people in your organization (Anthropic). The sessions inside a Cowork project can't be shared, only the artifacts they produce (Anthropic).

A Claude Code session can be shared only if it runs in the cloud, at claude.ai/code. You set its visibility and send the link: on Team and Enterprise the options are Private or Team (your organization), and on Pro and Max they're Private or Public (anyone logged in to claude.ai). Recipients see the latest state when they open the link, but it doesn't update live (Claude Code docs). On Pro and Max, check the session first, because it may contain code and credentials from private repositories.

A session in your terminal, IDE or the desktop app's local mode has no share option. It's saved as a transcript on your machine, and the closest thing is /export, which copies the conversation or saves it as a text file (Claude Code docs). Either way, what a teammate usually needs is the state of the work, not the transcript; Claude Code handoff covers how to write that down.

How does ChatGPT project sharing compare?

ChatGPT shares the whole project, including everyone's chats, on any plan (OpenAI).

Claude ChatGPT
Plans that can share a project Team, Enterprise Free, Go, Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise, Edu
Who you can add Members of your organization Invited people, or anyone logged in with the link
Roles Can view, Can edit Chat, Edit
Members see each other's chats No, chats stay private Yes, each chat shows who started it
Memory Each project has its own memory Project-only memory, no personal memory
Collaborator limit Your organization's seats 5 (Free), 10 (Go, Plus), 100 (Pro)

If the job is "my cofounder and I both need the same files, instructions and running history," ChatGPT does it out of the box. Claude Team does it for files and instructions, with history shared one chat at a time.

What does sharing cost for a two-person team?

To share a Claude project, both people need Team seats. Standard seats cost $25 a month billed monthly or $20 billed annually, with a two-seat minimum. Pro is $20 monthly or $17 annually (Anthropic). For two people that's an extra $10 a month on monthly billing, or $6 a month on annual.

On ChatGPT, only the owner's plan matters for limits. A Plus owner can share a project with up to 10 people, and the collaborators can be on any plan.

Here's how it plays out by who you're working with:

Who you share with Claude ChatGPT
A cofounder Both on Team, about $10 a month more than two Pro plans Works on any plan
A contractor for one project Needs a seat in your organization Invite them, remove them when done
A client Same as a contractor; view-only chat snapshots otherwise Invite with Chat access, but they see every chat in the project
A partner who uses the other tool Not possible Not possible

What if one of you uses Claude and the other uses ChatGPT?

Claude and ChatGPT can't see each other's projects. If one founder lives in Claude and the other in ChatGPT, the project context ends up pasted back and forth. We covered the workarounds in how to use Claude and ChatGPT together: copy and paste, a shared Drive or Notion folder, or one workspace both assistants connect to.

If your agents also work on the project, the problem gets worse, because now the context lives in each agent's own memory as well. See how to manage multiple AI agents and Claude Code for teams.

Where Tokenrip fits

Tokenrip is a shared workspace that Claude, ChatGPT and your other agents connect to over MCP. You and your cofounder, on whichever assistant you each use, read and write the same files, decisions and tasks. A contractor gets access to one workspace and loses it when the project ends.

To connect your agent, paste this into it:

Connect me to Tokenrip. Fetch https://tokenrip.com/setup?ref=share-claude-project and follow it.

Questions

Can someone on a free Claude plan view a chat I share?

Yes. Anthropic says a free account is enough to view a chat shared with specific people, but the recipient can't continue it, copy it to their account or download its files.

Do ChatGPT project members share my personal memory?

No. OpenAI says shared projects automatically use project-only memory, and members can't access each other's personal memories or custom instructions.

How many people can join a shared ChatGPT project?

It depends on the owner's plan: 5 collaborators on Free, 10 on Go and Plus, and 100 on Pro. Workspace projects on Business, Enterprise and Edu also allow up to 100.

Does archiving a Claude project remove the people I shared it with?

No. Anthropic says archiving keeps a project's sharing settings and members intact.
